What biblical persona do you connect most with?
The idea for this thread is to state which biblical person you are most like or connect most with. You can use scripture references to help reveal the biblical person's character qualities that you have in common with them.
The biblical persona I connect most with is Paul (Formally known as Saul.), but to understand why I connect with him I need to share a bit about my personality before I accepted Christ...
For starters, I was a proud Darwinist and I loved to show it. I believed that the theory of evolution was correct and infallible and I wanted to convince anyone that thought otherwise. When I encountered a Christian my ultimate goal of our interaction was for me to make them feel stupid and ignorant to the truth for believing such a being as God. I felt it was my duty to free them from this prison called Christianity. Also Christians were not welcome to "hang-out" with me. (Like any would after the way I treated them, I always spoke down to Christians, as if they weren't even human.) Oh, and I should mention that I was selfish, lazy, and extremely deceptive. What you should get from all this is that I was rooted deep in my belief in Darwinism.
When I was a Darwinist I was all out, no room for compromise. I wanted to be the best Darwinist I could be.
Then using a short series of events my world was turned upside down.
Religion was not the absence of logic, but rather the application of logic and truth in life.
I did a 180 degree turn away from Atheism to Christianity.
I went from HARASSING Christians to LOVING all people regardless of race, religion, or history.
I went from HATING the idea of God to LOVING Him with all of my heart, soul, and might.
I went from being controlled by the WORLD to being controlled by GOD.
I went from living for MYSELF to living for CHRIST.
When I first began my venture to work my way out of my old way of thinking to accept Christ I was sure to root myself deep in the church. This meant joining the youth group, reading multiple books, attending Sunday school and 2nd service, talking with the my pastor literally everyday, joining ISI, and even finding a girl to date in the youth group. I had this feeling when I first joined the youth group that I should find a suitable girl to date, I wasn't sure why at the time, but now I can see how God used her to bring me to Him and I will be forever thankful for that. Again, I was rooting myself deep and giving it my all. Even now I just found a young adult bible study that I have been attending and am beginning an online bible college study program. I will even be teaching about God's word come this fall in that very same youth group!
Here's the connection...
Paul, passionate and committed, won't let anything stop him from achieving his goal. He was prepared to do whatever it took to wipe out those new Christians (in acts) who were an insult to his Jewish faith. However, if you look forward a few months, there's the same Paul, but he is on the opposite side. --A COMPLETE TURNAROUND-- Now he's out there spreading the gospel-- preaching, travelling, and being imprisoned for his faith. He's the type of guy who throws himself wholeheartedly into whatever he does, like myself.
Acts 8:1 -Saul was one of the witnesses, and he agreed complete with the killing of Stephen.
Acts 9:1 -Meanwhile, Saul was uttering threats with every breath and was eager to kill the Lord's followers.
Acts 9:20 -And immediately he [Paul] began preaching about Jesus in the synagogues, saying, " He is indeed the Son of God!"
Acts 16:23 -They [Paul and Silas] were severely beaten, and then they were thrown into prison.

I think I relate the most to Paul for a few reasons...
- 1) He was called by God and wasn't accepted amongst many of his peers... nevertheless, he refused to shut up and just kept doing and being what God called him to do and be.
2) He had a lot to say!
3) He struggled with living for Christ (Romans 7:19).

In the New Testament, I would have to say Barnabas. I love to teach and help people to find their ministry in life. I want to see people grow to a much deeper understanding of God, His Word, and their lives in response to the change He works in their lives. One on one discipleship has become very important to me and seeing people realize the ministry to which God has called them excites me.

Teddy, you're right! I always think about John (when he was younger) as Yosemite Sam and James as Sam's Brother. Gotta love the Sons of Thunder!
